Earlier this month Enrichment Partnership were invited to run 2x3hour workshops on British Sign Language (BSL) and 2x3hour workshops on Social Media Skills. It was a great day with some really inspiring students.
Anthony who ran the BSL sessions said “We had two groups, each with a 20 mins break. There were 28 students overall – more students than I thought! – which shows great interest. We covered the BSL alphabet, greetings – including introducing yourself, name, how are you, where you live and how you are? Students gained an understanding of BSL rules and Deaf Culture such as the importance of facial expressions, pointing, placements, eye contact and waving or tapping on shoulder in order to get someone’s attention. We also covered vocabulary for Family, Weather and Numbers. The last 45 minutes was devoted to a Deaf Awareness workshop with the aid of an interpreter.
It was all very smooth and I think the students really enjoyed their session. They are now able to communicate with deaf people they may meet with an understanding of Deaf Awareness so they know what to do and what to expect.”
Rubbi, who ran the social media skills workshops shared her thoughts “Even thought this session was held on a super warm day, after the exams, and on a Friday, both sessions went well. The students were attentive and engaging. The welcome from the school including lunch was the best I’ve ever received since starting the business 6 years ago! The majority of the students didn’t want to head into a marketing or social media career, however, they were still happy to join in the tasks and commentary.”
I personally want to thank Chris, after years of speaking and planning, thank you so much for inviting us and for helping get this off the ground.
